ABOUT THE CLUB & THE GAME
Simply put bowls is about rolling a bowl ( called a wood) and getting it nearer to a jack than your opponents. Bowls rinks vary in length and here in Brockenhurst we play what is known as Short Mat.
But of course it is not that simple in reality because:
- The wood has a bias and does not roll like a ball
- The distance to the jack changes
- There are other woods shielding the jack
Bowls is a game involving gentle physical and mental exercise. And you will find that at Brockenhurst we are an extremely friendly and sociable club where experienced players and beginners are all welcome. Contact us through this web site or just turn up at the Village Hall during the playing season, September to April, 10am to 3pm.
Facilities
The club meets at Brockenhurst Village Hall which has free parking and step free access. We play on three excellent new mats. If you are new to the game we can loan you a set of bowls to get you started. All you will need is a pair of flat-soled shoes.
The Admin Bit
The club is run by a small committee of members.
For the season 2026/7 there is an annual subscription of £95 (less than the cost of a cup of coffee each playing week and you will have tea or coffee and biscuits each week at the club for no additional cost ! )
Community
The club was established some 30 years ago by a local GP. He believed passionately that people of all ages and all abilities benefited from physical and mental exercise. We offer that along with a friendly , sociable meeting place for residents of Brockenhurst and surrounding areas.
